Scam-alert: NELFUND warns against fake student loan registration portal

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) issued a public warning about a fake student loan registration portal circulating online. 

The fraudulent site falsely claimed President Bola Tinubu had directed the reopening of the NELFUND Student Loan portal. 

NELFUND clarified the message and website are fake and urged students to use only the official portal.

- Fraudulent message claimed Tinubu ordered reopening of the student loan portal

- *Fake website URL:* `https://nelfund-student-loan-2025.po-rt-al.com/NELFUND/`

- *NELFUND stated:* “We wish to categorically state that this website is FAKE, and the information contained in the message is false and misleading.”

*2. Official portal confirmation*

- Only legitimate portal: `www.nelf.gov.ng`

- NELFUND has no association with other sites like `www.fedstudyloan-gov.ng` or similar.

*3. Warning to students & public*

- Do not click unverified links or submit personal/financial info on suspicious websites

- Report suspicious messages/websites to `info@nelf.gov.ng`

- Follow verified social handles: 

`@nelfund` on X/Instagram, and 

Nigerian Education Loan Fund – NELFUND_ on Facebook/LinkedIn

*4. Statement source*

- Warning came from Mrs Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, NELFUND’s Director of Strategic Communications, in Abuja.

- Fund pledged transparency, safety, and fairness in the loan process

- All official announcements come only through verified platforms.

This isn’t the first time — NELFUND previously disassociated from another fake site, `www.fedstudyloan-gov.ng`, advertised as the FG student loan portal.
