All Tiers of Government Finally Signed Implementation Agreements on LG Autonomy

 

The Federal Government, state governors, and local government (LG) chairmen have signed an implementation agreement on local government autonomy. 

This agreement follows the Supreme Court's ruling that non-remittance of funds by states to local governments is unconstitutional ¹. 

The court directed the Accountant-General of the Federation to pay LG allocations directly into their accounts.

The Committee on Local Government Autonomy, set up by the Federal Government, has finalized its report and signed a technical document outlining the implementation framework ² ³ ⁴. 

This document will soon be presented to President Bola Tinubu.
